Our Mission...
Champions for Christ After School Program works with ‘at
risk’ children ages five through twelve from Charlotte’s
most impoverished neighborhoods. Champions is a fully accredited
after school program and recent recipient of a North Carolina
state grant for accelerated after-school programming. Champions
features a 5 to 1 student / teacher ratio, direct tracking
and involvement with the student’s Elementary School
Teachers, and significant Parental involvement. The children
are also encouraged through daily devotions and prayer, arts
& crafts, field trips, and sporting activities. Champions
also sponsors Camp Courageous, a full service summer camp
featuring Bible teaching, arts & crafts, sports, and camping.
Our Leader... After several years Pastoring a small
Inner City Congregation Peggy Chisholm sensed God’s
call to forsake ‘Churchism’ and pursue ‘Ministry’.
She was impressed by the Holy Spirit that the solution to
changing the condition of the Inner City was to reach inner
city children and youth with the Gospel. In 1993 Peggy and
her team of Church Volunteers started Outreach Kid’s
Club, in the parking lot of Southside Apartments. Outreach
Kid’s Club has grown to become Charlotte’s largest
Urban Children’s Ministry reaching hundreds of ‘at
risk’ children each week.
As Outreach Kid’s Club developed
Peggy saw the need to get deeper in the lives of the children
through an After School Program. Despite many obstacles Peggy
returned to school to earn her degree in early childhood education.
In the fall of 2002 Champions for Christ After School program
opened to provide a safe and educational environment for Charlotte’s
inner city children.
